Irish countertenor Adam McDonagh made his operatic role début as ‘Oberon’ in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Wexford Festival Opera 2025. He has also performed as Refugee (Flight), Ruggiero (Alcina), and Mopsa (The Fairy Queen) in opera scenes.

Adam won 2nd Prize in the Concours International Léopold Bellan in Paris. Closer to home, he won 1st Prize in the Joseph O’Mara Cup and reached the finals of the Dramatic Cup and Gervase Elwes Cup in Dublin Feis Ceoil. As a member of the ‘Wexford Factory’ at Wexford Festival Opera, he received masterclasses with Joseph Calleja, Celine Byrne and Ernesto Palacio. At the Oxenfoord International Summer School, he received masterclasses from Malcolm Martineau, Dame Ann Murray, and John-Mark Ainsley.

He has performed the Alto solos in Vivaldi’s Gloria with the Guinness Choir in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, and in Haydn’s Nelson Mass with the TU Dublin Conservatoire Choral Society.

He previously studied voice with countertenor Stephen Wallace at TU Dublin Conservatoire, and is currently studying with British bass James Platt and Irish soprano Anna Devin.
